Please know that I do not have the most consistent access to the internet in the world. To be assured of access, I have to haul my computer to the university, which is somewhat impractical to do everyday. If I do not update for a reasonable period of time -- say a week -- I am not dead, nor is it likely that am I dying. (In such situations, I suspect you will be informed via telephone of my approaching or past demise.)
